Origin and Establishment

“Sudanese Center for Democracy and Development” was established in Sudan in April 2010. Its vision is to be “the largest and most widespread organization, inspiring and leading civil society in Sudan.” The center aims to build a democratic, independent, and proactive civil society capable of creating positive change through the use of scientific knowledge.

Number of Beneficiaries: The total number of beneficiaries reached 11,869 people. A total of 7,737 trainees benefited from the “Success in a Changing World” program, while 4,132 trainees benefited from national campaigns.

Implemented Projects

1. Civil Society Support Project

  • Aimed at strengthening and empowering civil society organizations in Sudan
  • Over five years (2012–2017), the project covered 80% of Sudan’s states

2. National Success Campaign in Sudan (1)

  • Promoting a culture of success among youth and spreading the values of democracy and enlightenment
  • The project covered all states of Sudan
  • The number of targeted beneficiaries exceeded 17,000 young men and women

3. National Success Campaign in Sudan (2)

  • A continuation of the first phase
  • Included organizing the first National Success Camp in Sudan
  • Attracted 300 participants from all states of Sudan
  • With the participation of trainers from more than 10 Arab and European countries

4. Civil Society Coalition for Peace and Good Governance Project

  • Promoting a culture of peace and good governance in the central states of Sudan
  • With the participation of representatives from political parties, organizations, universities, and research centers

5. Sudan 2015 Elections Monitoring Project

  • The center led a coalition of more than 112 organizations
  • 850 local observers covered 9 Sudanese states
  • Provided training and technical consultations over six months

6. Education of South Sudanese Children Project

  • Providing educational support and assistance
  • Facilitating school enrollment and providing educational needs
  • Providing allowances for teachers and building classrooms and offices

7. Monitoring the Implementation of the Juba Peace Agreement 2020 Project

  • Monitoring the process of implementing the provisions of the peace agreement
  • Following up on implementation by the transitional government and armed movements

8. Empowerment of Low-Income Individuals Project

  • Providing microfinance (not exceeding USD 100)
  • Helping poor families secure additional sources of income
  • Providing training and consultations

9. Civic Education Project in Al-Jazira State

  • Focusing on issues of civil governance and the constitution
  • Transitional justice and peace

10. Promoting Social Dialogue and Freedom of Trade Union Work Project

  • Spreading a culture of trade union work
  • Enhancing democratic trade union practices
  • Funded by the International Labour Organization

11. Capacity Building of Civil Society Organizations

  • Combating human trafficking in Sudan
  • Providing medical, food, and legal services
  • Targeting refugees, internally displaced persons, and host communities in six states
